Job Summary

The position is responsible for ensuring that Respiratory Therapy services, including the evaluation and treatment of patients, are provided in a timely, accurate, and reliable manner. Services will be offered to inpatients, outpatients, staff, employees, and affiliated community groups as needed.

Job Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory therapy procedures as directed by management.
• Perform aerosol therapy treatments.
• Conduct CPT/Flutter/PEP Mask therapy (secretion mobilization therapy).
• Administer incentive spirometry therapy.
• Implement metered-dose inhaler (M.D.I.) therapy.
• Execute suctioning procedures.
• Carry out extubation procedures.
• Ensure oxygen tank safety.
• Administer oxygen therapy using all approved devices.
• Manage BiPAP-CPAP therapy and associated alarms.
• Perform cough assist/vest therapy.
• Manage high flow cannula/humidifier therapy and associated alarms.
• Conduct pulmonary function screening diagnostic procedures.
• Coordinate fit testing procedures with Employee Health.
• Conduct pulse oximetry procedures.
• Perform adult and pediatric EKG procedures.
• Provide adult, pediatric, and neonatal Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator alarms.
• Perform arterial puncture and analysis for the blood gas laboratory.
• Conduct quality control for the blood gas laboratory.
• Manage patient healthcare information systems and medication administration programs.
• Verify physician's written orders for pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Record and report the results of all procedures accurately.
• Maintain compliance with department delivery standards.
• Keep records and files in accordance with department policy.
• Assist in departmental in-service programs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Up to three (3) years of experience in respiratory therapy.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• One (1) year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.

Required Education

• Graduation from an accredited School for Respiratory Therapy.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License.
• Registered by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS and ACLS Certification from the American Heart Association.

Schedule Notes

This position offers a schedule of 36 hours per week for a duration of 13 weeks. Experience in critical care, NICU, V60 BiPAP/980 Puritan Bennett Ventilators is required. Candidates must be able to participate in external patient transports.
