Job Opportunity: Progressive Care Unit RN

Position Overview

The Progressive Care Nurse will provide specialized care to patients who are hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable on a medical/surgical unit during the night shift. This role encompasses physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support for patients, with expected populations including pediatrics, and those requiring pre and post PCI care, pacemaker management, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, and care for conditions such as CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and a wide range of surgical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in the Progressive Care Unit, ensuring stability while monitoring for potential deterioration.
  • Operate advanced medical equipment necessary for patient care, including care for patients with central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, arterial lines, and multiple IVs.
  • Manage patients requiring short-term ventilation support and maintain effective communication with the healthcare team to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to ensure effective patient care delivery.
  • Assess patient conditions and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Exercise clinical leadership and provide guidance to nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, housekeeping, and dietary staff.
  • Participate in discharge planning and ensure continuity of care from admission through discharge.
  • Support the Medical Surgical Nursing Unit when staffing adjustments are necessary.

Qualifications

  • Current State of Montana RN Licensure.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required, or obtained within six months of hire.
  • EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient with office equipment and multiple IV pumps, and advanced medical equipment, including A-lines and invasive lines.
  • Ability to care for patients requiring both non-invasive and invasive ventilatory support, as well as basic cardiac telemetry and ECG interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of advanced nursing principles and procedures; pediatric experience preferred.
  • Experience in post-heart catheterization preferred.

Medication Management

Capable of managing common IV medications including:

  • Heparin
  • Diltiazem
  • Dobutamine
  • Milrinone
  • Amiodarone
  • Dopamine

Shift Information

This position requires night shift availability and holiday coverage.

Minimum Experience

Three years of relevant nursing experience is required.
