Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. Nurses advocate for the care of individuals and families while ensuring compliance with all standards of practice in alignment with state regulations and organizational policies. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment that prioritizes patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients while serving as the primary or accountable nurse.
• Educate patients and their families in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
• Utilize knowledge of pharmacology and administer medications safely according to hospital policies.
• Contribute to effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, supplies, and services.
• Adhere to established nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Engage in the Nursing Shared Governance Model by participating in unit councils and improvement initiatives.
• Actively pursue professional development and continuing education, including all mandatory training requirements.
• Integrate current nursing research and evidence-based practices into daily care.
• Support a positive learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
• Assume responsibilities of the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator when assigned.
• Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program as nursing knowledge and expertise develop.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current Registered Nurse License in New York State.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific requirements as listed in the Compliance Matrix.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• CCRN Certification.
• Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Languages

• English: Read, write, and speak proficiently.

Schedule Notes

12-night shifts per week, totaling 36 hours; every third weekend required.

Required Experience

Experience with intensive cardiac patients including but not limited to CHF, COPD, end-stage heart failure, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, GI bleeds, CRRT, IABP, Impella, and normothermia. Familiarity with stroke patients, thrombectomy, and TNK, as well as ICU overflow management.
