Job Description
The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in providing comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include conducting general patient assessments, recognizing and managing complications, and ensuring adherence to radiation safety measures. This position demands excellent communication skills to explain procedures to patients and their families, as well as to collaborate with team members and radiologists regarding patient needs.
The ideal candidate will be capable of making critical decisions in urgent situations, demonstrating adaptability in changing environments, and managing multiple responsibilities across various departments. Effective problem-solving skills are essential to ensure high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough head-to-toe patient assessments.
- Implement and understand radiation safety protocols.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients and their families.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Manage critical situations decisively.
- Adapt to new environments and handle diverse responsibilities.
- Address and resolve patient care issues as they arise.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of Neuro experience preferred.
- Certification in BLS/BCLS.
Position Details
- Shift: Days with rotating call (Monday to Friday and weekends, including holidays).
- Typical diagnoses/procedures include sedation for invasive procedures, port placements/removals, CT biopsies, and neurovascular interventions for stroke.
- Common medications used include Versed, Fentanyl, and Cefazolin.
- Standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:1 for procedural sedation.
Preferred Skills
- Line Management Skills: Required: IV Insertion, PICC/Central Line Management. Preferred: CVP.
- Cardiac Skills: Required: Telemetry Interpretation, Cardioversion/Defibrillation. Preferred: Sheath Removal.
- Airway Skills: Required: Procedural Sedation.
- OBGYN/OR Skills: Required: Circulation.
Equipment Proficiency
- Experience with Computer, ISTAT, ACT Machine, IV Pump, and Vital Sign Machine.
