Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides high-quality patient care through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions. This role is focused on delivering care that respects the dignity and individuality of each patient, along with collaborating with families and healthcare teams to enhance patient outcomes.

Essential Functions

• Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients, reassessing as necessary, and develops individualized plans of care.
• Delivers patient care following established standards, protocols, and policies.
• Facilitates patient and family education based on identified learning needs and barriers to learning.
• Plans for and coordinates patient discharge, incorporating necessary support systems and resources.
• Delegates and supervises nursing tasks performed by others while appropriately prioritizing patient care needs.
• Documents patient data, therapeutic interventions, and responses comprehensively and accurately.
• Participates in multidisciplinary team rounds to evaluate and coordinate patient care.
• Recognizes potential risks to patient safety and works actively to reduce healthcare errors.
• Administers medications and intravenous therapies safely, following physician orders and protocols.
• Monitors patient pain levels and evaluates the effectiveness of pain management strategies.
• Identifies and responds to cardiac arrhythmias and interprets EKG configuration changes.
• Utilizes protocols for thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy and manages mechanical ventilation.
• Understands hemodynamic monitoring procedures and assists with invasive procedures as needed.
• Conducts ongoing assessments in the immediate post-operative phase, implementing interventions for potential complications.

Job Requirements

• Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Minimum Experience: One year of medical-surgical experience preferred; previous telemetry experience required; ICU experience preferred.
• Licenses and Certifications: Current RN license in Massachusetts; ACLS required upon hire or must obtain within 60 days of hire; CCRN certification preferred.

Functional Demands

Physical requirements include the ability to exert force occasionally ranging from 20 to 50 pounds, with frequent handling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The position requires frequent reaching, handling, and feeling, along with occasional bending and kneeling.

Shift Information

This position requires working 36 hours per week during night shifts, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with rotation for every other weekend and holiday.
