Job Description Summary

The NICU Respiratory Therapist is responsible for performing and documenting evaluations and patient assessments. This position provides diagnostic and therapeutic treatment, along with appropriate education to patients and families. The therapist is expected to identify significant changes in a patient's condition and document those appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic and therapeutic treatment, as well as assist physicians as needed.
• Deliver appropriate patient education, family teaching, and support based on individual patient and family needs.
• Document assessments, treatments, and significant changes in patient conditions accurately.
• Communicate pertinent information to the appropriate caregivers.
• Perform pain assessments and take appropriate actions according to standard operating procedures.
• Complete all necessary documentation, including order entry, verification, electronic medical records (EMR), medication charting, patient safety reports, and equipment repair tags.
• Process patient charges and run necessary reports.
• Disassemble, clean, and assemble respiratory equipment and carry out preventative maintenance according to established protocols.
• Tag equipment in need of maintenance or repairs and notify the appropriate departments.
• Transport infants to and from referral health systems as required.
• Provide high-quality critical care in alignment with the organization’s established patient care guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department and organization.

Certifications Required

• Respiratory Therapist License from North Dakota State Board of Respiratory Care (prior to start date)
• Respiratory Therapist License from Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (prior to start date)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from American Heart Association (prior to start date)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from American Heart Association (prior to start date)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from American Heart Association (prior to start date)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification from RQI Partners (prior to start date)

Shift Information

This position requires straight night shifts, consisting of 12-hour shifts, for a total of 36 hours per week. Holiday coverage is also required.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of two years of experience is required for this position.
