CT Scan Technologist

Job Summary:

The CT Scan Technologist performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques to produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assistance with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs complex CT procedures while exercising professional judgment.
  • Reviews and documents the patient’s clinical history for procedures, ensuring information is scanned into PACS.
  • Prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member, scanning it into EPIC.
  • Identifies and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Verifies the appropriateness of exam prescriptions and communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician for clarification.
  • Calls physicians to clarify prescriptions according to established CT protocols.
  • Confirms insurance authorization and sends modification forms for re-verification.
  • Obtains outside studies (CD) and schedules them in EPIC for Radiologist comparison.
  • Provides exam copies to the patient and requesting caregiver or physician.
  • Evaluates radiographs using the PACS System for proper identification and diagnostic value.
  • Gathers relevant information to prepare protocols for scanning, ensuring patient safety.
  • Assesses and determines appropriate preparations for each patient prior to scanning.
  • Prepares patients for scanning using appropriate tools such as shielding and immobilization devices.
  • Determines the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
  • Provides clear explanations and instructions to patients, addressing questions and concerns appropriately.
  • Performs venipuncture and IV procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Monitors patients for adverse reactions during procedures.
  • Complies with scheduling responsibilities, including weekend shifts and potential overtime for quality patient care.
  • Adheres to policies regarding employee identification, standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Identifies the needs of patients specific to age, culture, language, and physical impairments, adjusting care accordingly.
  • Communicates effectively with patients or caregivers at their level of understanding.
  • Adheres to the standards established for organizational competencies and behavior.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning.
  • Understanding of the mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
  • Thorough knowledge of the PACS system.
  • Maintains continuing education unit (CEU) credits.
  • ARRT (CT) certification must be achieved within twelve months of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within three months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Six months of CT experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Epic and other HIS/RIS systems is advantageous.

Education & Certifications:

  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License is required.
  • ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license is required.
  • ARRT Certified R.T. (CT) license is preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.

Working Schedule:

Schedule includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, totaling 3 shifts per week, with weekends required. No holiday work is required, but overtime may be necessary to ensure quality patient care.
