Job Summary:

The Cat Scan Technologist is responsible for performing computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation, and assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Perform complex CT procedures.
• Utilize professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history for procedures, ensuring accurate documentation in the PACS system.
• Prepare, screen, and review the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and/or family members, entering information into EPIC.
• Identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Review patient prescription to verify appropriateness of exam, communication with the Radiologist and Referring Physician if corrections are needed.
• Clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols.
• Verify insurance authorization for exams and communicate modifications to finance for re-verification.
• Obtain outside studies and ensure they are scheduled in EPIC for Radiologist comparison.
• Provide exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members.
• Evaluate radiographs using the PACS System for proper identification and diagnostic value.
• Gather relevant information from medical records and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
• Ensure patients are appropriately prepared for procedures.
• Prepare patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization.
• Determine appropriate contrast type and dose to be administered.
• Offer clear explanations and instructions to patients, addressing questions and concerns as needed.
• Perform venipuncture and IV maintenance procedures following established guidelines.
• Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during procedures.
• Commit to scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays, as well as potential overtime and on-call assignments.
• Adhere to policies regarding Employee ID, Standards of Behavior, Attendance, and Punctuality.
• Lift and maneuver equipment as necessary, adhering to physical capability requirements.
• Adapt care delivery based on the specific needs of patient populations, ensuring effective communication.
• Follow organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological positioning.
• Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
• Proficient with the PACS system.
• Maintain Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits.
• Must obtain ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within three months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Six months of CT experience preferred.
• Familiarity with EPIC and any HIS/RIS systems used.

Required Education:

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Certifications & Licensure:

• NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
• ARRT Certified R.T. (R) license.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
