Description
Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: University Hospital (Magnet®-designated, ranked #1 in Wisconsin)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Evening/Night shifts
- 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
- Every other weekend and some holidays
- No on-call required
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- CVICU experience required
- Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required
- Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred
- Must have completed 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Epic experience required, preferably within the last 12 months
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
Licensure & Certifications
- Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
- BLS & ACLS certifications must be American Heart Association (AHA) issued
- Telemetry test pass required before starting
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP)
Job Description
- Join the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant team on an acuity adaptable unit
- Provide specialized care for patients undergoing cardiac/thoracic surgeries, heart/lung transplants, and those with medical devices
- Deliver care combining technological expertise with patient and family-centered commitment
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
Facility Requirements
- Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
- Facility is a leading teaching hospital and referral center
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years
- Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- Education verification and diploma/transcript may be required depending on profession
- State-specific caregiver screening (Wisconsin BID form) required within 90 days of start
- Drug screening required for clinical candidates (standard 9-panel)
- Physical exam and immunizations per facility standards (including TB test, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or approved exemptions)
- Telemetry pass/fail testing with remediation process for those in telemetry-required specialties
- Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing for telemetry
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except religious/medical)
- Various medical exemption forms for vaccines accepted with approval process
Testing & Competency Exams
- Telemetry exams (Adult and Pediatric) required and must be passed with specific criteria (80% overall, 100% lethal rhythms)
- Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation after 2nd failure
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Color blindness testing for certain specialties (e.g., Laboratory, Dialysis)
Additional Notes
- Floating is expected; traveler may be reassigned to different units if primary unit no longer has need
- Facility requires strict adherence to certification renewal timelines and documentation uploads
- Facility-specific forms and compliance documents must be completed timely to maintain eligibility
