Description

Registered Nurse (ICU Nights) - Saratoga Springs, NY

Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • ICU night shifts
  • Must be able to work through the holidays and work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Able to float within skill set at manager's discretion
  • Patient ratio: 1:2-3
  • Local rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from Saratoga Springs (specific counties excluded)

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of current ICU experience
  • New York RN license in hand
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Must be able to read cardiac rhythms and pass a hospital proctored test with:
    • 80% accuracy in rhythm identification

    • 100% accuracy in identifying critical rhythms
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required
  • Must pass advanced EKG/ECG testing within 72 hours of contract signing (90% passing score, 100% on lethal rhythms)
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable

Important Notes

  • Housing is expensive in the fall; candidates should review housing options before signing
  • Candidates must comply with local residency restrictions (cannot reside in certain counties within 50 miles)
  • Must be willing to complete required training and testing as part of orientation and ongoing compliance

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year search (SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (annual)
    • State-specific registry searches as applicable
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS, BLS, PALS (preferred)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • Pass/fail EKG/ECG testing and medication competency exams
  • Mandatory trainings:
    • Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (NY State requirement)
    • Facility-specific assessments (lift assessment, ECG study guide review)
  • Health requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD required)
    • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption (mask required if exempt)
    • COVID-19 vaccinations preferred but not mandated
    • Fit mask testing (N95 OSHA questionnaire and fit test)
    • Color blindness test (Ishihara test)
  • References:
    • 2 professional references for travel, allied, per diem acute care
    • 1 professional reference for per diem non-acute care (not required for non-clinical roles)

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of virtual general orientation and clinical testing modules prior to start date
  • Facility requires passing scores on competency exams and may offer remediation and retesting opportunities (up to 3 attempts for EKG test)
  • Must complete all Healthstream modules by the Wednesday before start date

This position requires a highly skilled ICU nurse with strong cardiac rhythm interpretation skills, flexibility to work holidays, and compliance with strict credentialing and health requirements.
