Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU (Pulmonary/GI)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Option for 4x12 hour shifts available upon request
- May work every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals accepted within a specified radius
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required
- Pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Required certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Required Clinical Skills
- Experience in PCU/IMC/stepdown settings
- Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care
- Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration)
- Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management
- Use of rapid response/code teams and isolation precautions
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Patient population: Adults and geriatrics
- Unit census: Approximately 27 patients daily
- Fast-paced, high acuity care environment
- Primary focus: Pulmonary/GI patients (no ventilators on unit)
- May work without CNA support
- Floating required within skillset
Scheduling & Charting
- Charting system: Epic experience required
- All requests for time off (RTO), block, and special scheduling must be submitted upfront
- Christmas time off requests cannot be accommodated
Additional Requirements
- Background check covering 7 years of history required within 1 year of start
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit testing (mask) within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 30 days of start
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Flu vaccination or mask and declination form during flu season
- Two clinical references required
- Complete employment application/resume required
- Annual skills checklist update required
