Job Opportunity: Med/Surg Telemetry Nurse (Float/Resource Pool)
Location
- Plattsburgh, NY area (no public transportation; reliable personal or rental vehicle required)
- Facility is a 341-bed hospital with Med/Surg Telemetry units (R5, R6, R7) and ED Hold patients
Unit Details
- Units: R5 (24 beds), R6 (24 beds), R7 (25 beds), plus float to other telemetry units and ED Hold
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- R5: 1:4
- R6: 1:4
- R7: 1:5 (adjustable)
- Ancillary staff support per shift:
- CNAs/PCTs: R5 (3), R6 (3), R7 (4)
- Unit clerks/secretaries: 1 per unit per shift
- No advanced practice providers on unit
- Orientation: 1 day
- Documentation system: EPIC (medication system transitioning from MAK to EPIC)
- Dress code: Navy blue & white scrubs, solid colors; minimal jewelry; groomed hair/beard; no acrylic nails; comfortable shoes
Schedule & Requirements
- Contract length: 6 weeks
- Shift hours and rotation schedule to be posted; no self-scheduling
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)
- No call requirements
- Floating required to R5, R6, R7, and other telemetry units as scheduled
- No charge nurse responsibilities
Patient Population & Clinical Info
- Patient diagnoses by unit:
- R5: Med/Surg Oncology
- R6: Med/Surg Orthopedics
- R7: Med/Surg Urology/ALC
- Age range: 25-99 years
- Special equipment: IV pumps, bladder scanner
- Respiratory support available 24/7; ventilators managed by respiratory therapists in ICU
- Unit procedures: IV insertion, bladder scans, blood draws from central lines, glucose monitoring
- May work with ED Hold patients in Emergency Care Center (ECC/ER)
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience (including specialty experience)
- Current AHA BLS certification required
- CMSRN certification preferred
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required prior to start
- Recent EPIC experience (within past 2 years) mandatory
- Must have license on file at time of submission
- Complete work history required, including bed count, EMR, and facility type
- Explanation required for any employment gaps over 90 days
Additional Notes
- Schedule is Monday through Sunday with no block scheduling
- Public transportation is not available; personal vehicle strongly recommended
- Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April
This position is ideal for nurses with Med/Surg Telemetry experience who are comfortable floating between units and working with a diverse patient population including oncology, ortho, urology, and ED hold patients.
