Description

Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Madison, Wisconsin

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Location: Madison, WI
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Facility: University Hospital (Magnet®-designated, ranked #1 in Wisconsin)
  • Shift: Day/Night, 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 and/or 1900-0730)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend, some holidays, no on-call required
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

  • Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant team
  • Acuity adaptable unit caring for patients requiring specialized care for:
    • Cardiac and thoracic surgeries and procedures
    • Heart and/or lung transplants
    • Various medical devices

Experience & Skills Required

  • CVICU experience required
  • Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Epic electronic health record experience required (preferably within last 12 months)
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start

Licensure & Certifications

  • Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS & ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
  • Telemetry test pass required before starting assignment

Facility & Assignment Details

  • Must live within 50 miles of the primary work site
  • Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
  • Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available

Compliance & Credentialing Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including multi-location search for past 7 years
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Education verification required for RN (Associate degree or higher)
  • State-specific caregiver screening and BID form required for Wisconsin
  • Drug screening required per standard (not required annually)
  • Physical exam collected to meet agency standard (not facility required)
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers; medical/religious exemptions allowed
    • Varicella vaccination or titer; medical/religious exemptions allowed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (annual requirement)
    • Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Telemetry exams (Adult and Pediatric) required and must be passed prior to start or during orientation
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Color blindness testing if working in Laboratory or Dialysis
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing acknowledgment required

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge must meet specific requirements (passport-style, no selfies, solid background)
  • Facility requires strict adherence to certification renewals and documentation submission deadlines
  • Floating and shift flexibility expected due to staffing needs
