Travel RN Opportunity - Emergency Department

Location: LewisGale Medical Center, Salem, Virginia

Unit Information

• Unit: Emergency Department
• Number of Beds: 27
• Staffing:

  • Total Staff: 50 RNs, 25 Medics
  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics; additional 4-5 RNs added at 11am; 1-2 RNs added at 3pm
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics
• Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per nurse
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Must have completed 2-3 travel assignments
• 2-3 years of Emergency Room (ER) experience required
• Preferred experience in:

  • High acuity, fast-paced, high volume ERs
  • Patient ratios of 5:1

Typical Procedures Performed

• Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
• Sepsis interventions
• Stroke protocol including tPA administration
• Central line placement
• Care of psychiatric patients
• Transfers to other facilities (EMTALA compliance)

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred Certifications:

• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• NIH Stroke Scale
