Job Opportunity: RN PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)

Job Description
- Provide care in a fast-paced, high-volume, high-acuity interventional patient care environment.
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Prior experience and familiarity with procedures and equipment required.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of cardiovascular pathophysiology and interventional procedures related to acute cardiac, circulatory, and respiratory emergencies.
- Provide and maintain a therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Utilize equipment, supplies, and nursing resources appropriately.
- Foster continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources.
- Facilitate consistent, efficient communication among all staff.
- Ensure all documentation and billing requirements are met.
- Communicate and educate effectively at all levels.
- Maintain professionalism and collaboration at all times.
- Adhere to hospital, department, and regulatory policies, including Radiation Safety protocols.
- Participate in research, quality improvement, and education/training to stay current in electrophysiology.
- Assist in orientation of new employees.
- Support the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and departmental initiatives.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Current Massachusetts Nursing License required (no conditional licenses accepted).
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of critical care experience required.
- Advanced knowledge and skills in assessment and evaluation of chronically ill cardiac patients preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of interventional procedures for acute cardiac/circulatory/respiratory emergencies preferred.
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.

- Proficiency with computers and cardiac diagnostic and mapping systems.
- Flexibility regarding shift coverage and overtime.
- Physical ability to lift linen, supplies, and patients.
- Ability to work with adult, elderly, and critically ill patients, including emergency situations such as cardiac or respiratory codes.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office products.
Working Conditions
- Fast-paced, high-acuity interventional patient care environment.
- Physical effort required to lift and position patients and radiographic equipment.
- Exposure to radiation during fluoroscopy and digital acquisition.
- Risk of needle sticks and exposure to blood, waste products, and contagious diseases.
- Constant changes in lighting conditions.
Contract Length
- Approximately 13 weeks.
Onboarding & Credential Requirements
Required Before Start
- Current Massachusetts Nursing License verification (primary source verification required).
- BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date, updated annually.
- MGB Medication Exam with 80% passing score within 365 days.
- Documentation of MMR vaccination or immunity.
- Influenza vaccine during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30), no exemptions.
- TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test), updated if >6 month break.
- Physician health statement within 365 days of start date, updated if >6 month break.
- Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start date, including Massachusetts CORI and national sex offender check.
- Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state.
- Two recent references (minimum one supervisor or above).
- Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet.
- Respirator Medical Clearance attestation (if fit test required).
- Confirmation of assignment form upon acceptance.
- Education verification through background check.
- Social Security Number trace as part of background check.
- Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days of start and annually.
Optional / Preferred
- Hepatitis B vaccination or proof of immunity preferred.
- Tdap vaccination within 10 years preferred.
- Documentation of chest x-ray if positive TB test.
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs with strong cardiac knowledge seeking a challenging role in a high-acuity PACU environment.
