Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Facility Type: Level 2 Trauma Center
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Call: 2x per schedule
  • Role: Must be able to Circulate and Scrub in the Operating Room
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of current acute care OR experience
  • Specialty Experience Required:
    • Robotic and ENT
    • Orthopedic, vascular, general, thoracic, neuro surgeries
  • Patient Mix: All OR specialties except Open Heart
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrubs Provided
  • First-time travelers accepted

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required, RQI and instructor cards acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for RN Manager, ED, Adult Critical Care Units, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D; preferred for Behavioral Health
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, Pediatrics
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, Newborn, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, Special Care Nursery
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – Required as applicable for adult and pediatric chemo nurses
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Beginner and Intermediate levels required for Mother-Baby and Labor & Delivery RNs
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person training)
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Required for Adult Critical Care, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and Stroke Center units
  • Other Certifications:
    • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG, Medication)
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for applicable units)
    • Color Blind Testing (if job tasks require)
    • State License Verification (NURSYS verification as applicable)

Required Experience & Skills

  • Must be able to circulate and scrub in the OR
  • Experience with robotic and ENT surgeries
  • Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries
  • Submit work history and skills checklist for scrub and circulate skills

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility requirements
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance (on-site fit testing mandatory)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation required
  • Completion of facility-specific safety and compliance training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission)
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior verified)

Additional Notes

  • RWJBarnabas Health is the employer; documentation from one RWJ site may transfer if gap between assignments is 30 days or less
  • Candidates must complete competency exams within 72 hours of signing contract
  • CEUs (Continuing Education Units) required for certain specialties and must be current
  • Facility-specific documents and attestations must be completed prior to start
  • Candidates with name changes must provide proof and include all names in background checks
  • Masking and PPE policies apply, including accommodations for religious or medical reasons
