Description

Travel RN Opportunity - Medical/Surgical Unit

Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Medical/Surgical
  • Number of Beds: 12
  • Staffing: Either 2 RNs + 1 PCT or 3 RNs per shift
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4 to 1:6 (currently 6:1 ratio most common)
  • Equipment: Typical medical/surgical equipment
  • EMR System: Meditech

Job Requirements

  • Licenses/Certifications:

    • Registered Nurse License (RN)
    • BLS Certification
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN in the specialty (Medical/Surgical)
  • Skills:

    • Ability to handle a 6:1 patient ratio
    • Strong time management skills
  • Preferred Skills:

    • Teamwork
    • Experience with Meditech EMR

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Full patient assessments
  • Focused assessments every 8 hours
  • IV antibiotic administration
  • Bladder scans
  • Discharge education
  • Admission assessments

  • Self-scheduling available based on seniority with 4 guaranteed request-off shifts per 4-week schedule

Dress Code

  • Scrubs in teal or white

  • Patient acuity tends to be lower, making afternoons more manageable despite busy mornings
  • The unit aims to improve patient ratios to 5:1 in the future
