Unit Information

Unit: Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CSU)
Number of Beds: 18
Staffing: 38 total staff
- Day Shift: 5 RNs, 1 Critical Care (CC), 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCT)
- Night Shift: 5 nurses, 1 PCT
Patient Ratios: 4:1
Equipment Used: Central lines, PCA pumps, Foley catheters, chest tubes, pacer wires, telemetry, drains
Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Skills

Must be able to read cardiac monitors
Must be able to administer narcotics

Preferred Skills

Stepdown unit experience
Cardiac knowledge

Typical Procedures on Unit

CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
Valve replacement
TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
Mitral clip procedures
Thoracotomy
Management of Afib, CHF, MI
Cardiac drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, nitro

Certifications & Licenses Required

BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NIH Certification
Registered Nurse License

Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN in the specialty

Work Environment & Policies

Floating Areas: Telemetry and Medical-Surgical units
Dress Code: All navy scrubs
Vital signs and assessments every 4 hours
Rhythm interpretation every 4 hours
Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend required, overtime available
