Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Tyler, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Unit: 5 North (36 beds, private rooms)
  • Patient Population: Young adult through geriatric patients
  • Specialty Focus: Medical level cardiac care, including post-cardiac surgery, coronary artery stent placement, pacemaker implant, and stable non-procedural cardiac patients
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Float Requirement: Must float to units of equal or lesser acuity
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required (first-time travelers not accepted)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - As applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - As applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - As applicable
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - As applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - As applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - As applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Preferred (expires annually)

Skills & Competencies

  • EPIC experience - Required
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required as applicable (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online) - Required
  • Competency Exam - Required as applicable (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Unit Specific Skills Checklist - Required annually

Licensure & Verification

  • State License primary source online verification required
  • NURSYS Verification required for RN
  • Education Verification required (highest level of education)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test within 1 year of start (must be renewed annually)
  • Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year of start
  • TB Questionnaire for positive TB results (renew annually)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 Vaccination (Dose 1 and Fully Vaccinated) or approved medical/religious exemption required

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start (includes SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification)

Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position in a cardiac-focused unit requiring a minimum of 2 years of specialty experience and prior travel experience. Candidates must have EPIC experience and meet a comprehensive set of certification, licensure, health, and background requirements. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks with a patient ratio of 1:6 and a weekend rotation every other weekend. Local candidates from certain counties are not eligible.
