Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Home Health/Hospice and Skilled Nursing setting
  • Caring for primarily geriatric patients with 6 months or less to live
  • Average daily census: 63 patients; approximately 5 visits per day
  • Shift: 8-hour days, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Call requirement: Yes (on-call rotation on weekends)
  • Float requirement: None
  • Scheduling: Per unit needs
  • Orientation: 40 hours plus hospital orientation
  • Scrubs: Not provided; RNs wear all navy blue

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • Traveler Experience: 1st time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)
  • Certifications: BLS required
  • Work Setting Skills: Home Health/Hospice and Skilled Nursing
  • End of Life Care Skills: After treatment (survivorship), cultural awareness
  • Medication Administration & Pain Management:
    • WHO Analgesic Ladder, adjuvant therapy, breakthrough dosing
    • Pediatric dosage calculations, medication tolerance, pain assessment
    • Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain interventions
    • Proper disposal of medications
    • Types of pain (somatic, visceral, neuropathic) and treatment
    • Utilization of pain scales (verbal, nonverbal)
  • Professional Knowledge & Skills:
    • Goal setting with patient/family
    • Intake assessment/interview
    • Medicare state regulations
    • Patient/family education and support
    • Positioning/preventive shearing and pressure ulcers
  • Symptom Assessment/Management:
    • Altered mental status, anorexia/cachexia, aphasia
    • Constipation/diarrhea, nausea/vomiting
    • Pressure ulcer staging

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • End of Life Care: Death pronouncement, death/dying counseling, spiritual needs identification, perideath family care, postmortem care
  • Ethical and Legal Issues: Advanced directives, medical futility, medical abandonment, organ donation, palliative sedation, withholding/withdrawing treatment
  • Medication Administration & Pain Management: Equianalgesic dosing of opioids, PCA pump management
  • Phlebotomy/IV Management: Phlebotomy skills, starting/maintaining IVs, care of peripheral IVs/central lines/ports
  • Professional Knowledge: Durable Medical Equipment (DME) authorization of necessity
  • Symptom Assessment/Management: Ascites

Additional Information

  • Unit systems used: EPIC Remote Client, SBAR
  • No RTO (Return to Office) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
  • Interview required via Zoom before offer

This role is ideal for RNs with hospice and home health experience who are comfortable managing complex symptom and pain management in end-of-life care. Prior travel experience is not required.
