Job Opportunity: CT Scan Tech (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
  • Shift: 3x12 hour days, Sunday - Tuesday, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
  • On-call: Yes, rotation with staff
  • Floating: Required within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities
  • Daily Caseload: Approximately 6 scans per hour
  • Radiation Badge: Must be supplied by the agency (facility does not provide)

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: 1 year preferred; 6 months Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Certifications/Licenses Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • ARRT RT (R) (CT)
    • SCRQSA (R) (CT)
  • Additional Experience: Siemens equipment experience and Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • State License: Must have South Carolina license in hand at time of start (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Radius Rule: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • SSN Trace, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, and state-specific searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if verification attempts exhausted
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment Application: Must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps

Certifications & Competencies

  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, required for certain units (confirm with facility)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required for pediatric units
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required (not required for ER RNs)
    • NIH Stroke Certification - required for ER
    • IV Therapy Certification - required for select LPNs (confirm if applicable)
  • Competency Exams: Required as applicable, including medication/pharmacology competency and color blind testing
  • Tech Certification Verification: Required for allied health professionals (e.g., RRT, Ultrasound Techs)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
  • Vaccinations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID-19 Vaccines: Highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Additional for Sterile Processing Techs: Physical assessment and lab panels (CMP and CBC with differential) required

Facility Specific Requirements

  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; modules take approximately 2 hours
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses
  • Radiation Badge: Required for Radiology/Cardiology travelers; agency must supply and manage radiation badge process
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license only accepted
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Fit testing required; PAPR not provided by facility, travelers must supply if needed

Notes

  • Candidates cannot start without their radiation badge; badges may take 5-7 days to arrive after ordering
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • All required documents and certifications must be current and valid at time of start (no certifications expiring within 30 days accepted)

This position is suitable for CT Scan Technologists with experience in Siemens equipment and Level 1 trauma, who hold the necessary certifications and South Carolina licensure, and are able to work a Sunday-Tuesday 12-hour shift with on-call rotation.
