Cardiovascular Perfusionist - Hartford, Connecticut

Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week) with rotating shifts plus call obligation, including weekends and holidays

  • 13-person rotation schedule
  • Morning shifts: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • Afternoon shifts: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Call shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd call on weekdays and weekends): 24-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 6:00 AM)
  • 30-minute response time required when on call

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • Current State of Connecticut Perfusion License
  • Current ABCP Certification
  • Current BLS Certification

Role Overview

As a perfusionist, you will perform advanced technical work supporting the cardiopulmonary system of adult patients under physician supervision. The primary work area is the operating room, with potential assignments in the Cath Lab, Emergency Room, and ICU.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide perfusion support for elective and emergency adult open-heart surgeries, including:
    • CABG, AVR, MVR, Aortic Repairs, AngioVac, Heart Transplants, ECMO, and Acute VADs
  • Provide perfusion support for non-cardiac procedures such as:
    • Liver Transplants, HIPEC, VV ECMO, Autologous Blood Recovery
  • Support cardiac assist devices including:
    • IABP, Impella CP/5.5/RP Flex, ProTek Duo, VA ECMO, CentriMag, HeartMate 3
  • Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents under physician supervision
  • Perform equipment maintenance, checklists, and documentation
  • Adjust therapy in consultation with attending physicians
  • Maintain proficiency with equipment and procedures
  • Participate in supply ordering and maintenance
  • Contribute to policy development, performance improvement, quality management, and staff education
  • Assist other staff and prioritize patient care and interdepartmental service
  • Uphold professional standards including courtesy, respect, and positive attitude
