Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract


Assignment Details

  • Contract Length: Up to 52 weeks (flexible; travelers may request 14-26 weeks if preferred)
  • Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM
  • Start Date: Flexible
  • Unit: To be determined based on facility need after clinical evaluation
  • Patient Ratio: Currently 1:5 in PCU (goal is 1:4)
  • Floating: All travelers expected to float as needed within their acuity level

Required Experience & Skills

  • Specialty Experience: Not explicitly stated; default to standard RN requirements (no lower limit given)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • I9 or attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility (required within 48 hours of signing)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Background Check: 7-year history within 1 year of start, including all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Highest earned degree verification or transcript/diploma required
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases
  • Fit Test: Within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB Questionnaire: Required for all candidates
  • Immunizations: Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu Vaccination: Not required but mask and declination form required if declined
  • Photo for badge: Professional photo required (no selfies or filters)
  • References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Employment Application/Resume: Required
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually

Additional Notes

  • All travelers must be prepared to float within their acuity level as needed
  • Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
  • Some units may require additional certifications or competencies based on specialty or department
  • VA State Police Search completed onsite first day for certain candidates (home health, hospice)

This position is ideal for RNs with PCU experience who are comfortable with flexible scheduling and floating, have EPIC experience, and meet the required certifications and compliance documentation.
