Job Summary: RN Ambulatory (Contractor)

Work Setting

• Ambulatory Surgery Center with:

  • 4 Operating Rooms (20-25 cases/day, Monday-Friday)
  • 2 Endoscopy Suites (12-15 cases/day, Monday-Friday)
• Patient types include all ages (as young as 12 months)
• Patients recovered in the same room as Pre-Op; no separate PACU
• Lower acuity, same-day surgical cases including:

  • Orthopedics: arthroscopy (shoulders, knees, occasionally hips), podiatry
  • General Surgery/Urology/Gynecology/ENT: hernia repair, appendectomies, laparoscopies, bladder stimulator, mesh slings, tonsils & adenoid removal, sialendoscopy, ear tubes
  • Endoscopy: EGD, colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopy, Bravo procedures (no pill cams)
  • Interventional Pain Management: epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablations, cervical/lumbar injections
  • Ophthalmology: cataract surgery
• No plastic surgery cases

Patient Ratios

• Pre-op: 1:1
• PACU/Phase I: 1:1
• Phase II: 3:1

Required Certifications

• RN:

  • OR RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Pre/PACU RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS
  • Endo RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS
• Surgical Tech: BLS; graduation from accredited program required (no national certification)
• Anesthesia Tech: BLS; graduation from accredited program or equivalent training (e.g., military)
• Endo Tech: BLS
• CNA (PACU): BLS, certified CNA
• Sterile Processing Tech: CRCST or CBSPD strongly preferred; BLS no longer required

Skills Required

• OR/Endo RN: Endoscopy experience including procedural sedation, prepping case carts, familiarity with listed patient types
• Pre/PACU RN: Pre-op care, recovery of Phase I & II PACU patients, discharge experience
• Surgical Tech: Experience with listed cases, prepping case carts
• Anesthesia Tech: Assisting with intubation, room turnover, nerve blocks, IV starts
• Endo Tech: Cleaning, handling, storing scopes; sterile processing techniques; general endoscopy experience
• CNA (PACU): Assisting RN with post-anesthesia patient care, vitals, stocking supplies, discharge, patient education
• Sterile Processing Tech: Decontamination, assembly, sterilization, inspecting, cleaning, sorting, wrapping (no case cart prep)

Floating

• Potential to float to any of 3 other Ambulatory Surgery Centers within ~20-25 minutes

Orientation

• Day 1: Meet Educator, tour, mandatory education, facility orientation
• Unit: Paired with preceptor for first shifts based on experience and comfort

Scheduling

• Monday-Friday only; no weekends
• Shift times:

  • Pre/PACU RN: 05:45 - 16:00
  • Endo RN: 06:30 - 15:30
  • OR RN: 06:00 - 15:30
  • Surgical Tech: 06:00 - 15:30
  • Anesthesia Tech: 06:00 - 15:30
  • CNA (PACU): 06:00 - 15:30
  • Sterile Processing Tech: 06:00 - 15:30
• No on-call requirements
• Closed major holidays
• Time off approval: Up to 7 days; requires contract extension of 1 week for any full week off
