Travel RN Opportunity - Richmond, Virginia

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Step-Down Unit (TCU)
  • Location: Richmond, VA
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Transitional Care Unit (TCU) / Step-Down
  • Number of Beds: 20
  • Patient Ratios: 4:1
  • Staffing: Unit Secretary, Nurse Externs (can start IVs), Patient Care Techs (can draw labs), Registered Nurses, Manager, Director
  • Equipment: ZOLL, Baxter pumps, GE telemetry monitors, imobile, Hillrom beds, Centrella Specialty beds, kangaroo pumps, Timpani and Inspire App (scheduling)
  • Documentation System: Expanse
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend, holiday or hard-to-fill availability, 2 Mondays / 2 Fridays per schedule
  • Floating Policy: Can float to other Step-Down units (4:1 PSTU, CSU) and Medsurg units (6:1 ONC, CRPU, GSTU, NTU, MCU)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty nursing
  • Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIH Certification, Registered Nurse License
  • Clinical Experience Required:
    • Step-Down nursing experience
    • Cardiac drips (Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Nitro, etc.)
    • BIPAP/CPAP/High Flow oxygen therapy
    • Sepsis management
  • Procedures: Occasional bedside cardioversion (Cath Lab staff available for recovery)
  • Patient Care: Acute care/Step-Down, post-cardiac catheterization without intervention, chest tubes

Unit Culture & Expectations

  • Dress Code: All navy blue or all white scrubs, closed-toed shoes (no Crocs), HCA/Hospital branded T-shirts permitted
  • Shift Times: Prompt start at 0700/1900; late arrivals not tolerated
  • Shift Huddle: Mandatory attendance
  • Bedside Shift Report: Mandatory for all patients, including isolation cases
  • Team Environment: Strong teamwork and accountability emphasized
  • Staff Experience: Mix of nurses with 30+ years of experience and new graduates; 0% turnover rate for last 2 years
  • Recognition: Daisy Award, Rose Award, Bee Award, Pride Award
