Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse Travel Assignment
Location & Facility
- Unit Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Unit Beds: Not specified
- Facility Beds: 341
- Trauma Level: 2
- Teaching Facility: No
- Teaching Hospital Experience: Not required
Contract Details
- Contract Length: 32 weeks
- Start Date: Must start by January 26
- Shift Hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (day and night shifts)
- Scheduling: Posted schedule, no self-scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Usually every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)
- Call Requirement: None
- Orientation: 1-2 days, bi-weekly orientations on Mondays
Experience & Certifications
- Minimum Clinical Experience: 1 year
- Minimum Specialty Experience (PCU/Telemetry): 1 year (telemetry experience required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (preferred)
- Certifications Required:
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- NIHSS (must be obtained prior to start)
- Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years is required
Patient Population & Care
- Adult patients with diagnoses including:
- Acute Coronary Syndrome
- Bipap/CPAP with compromised gas exchange
- Cardiac diagnoses requiring close monitoring
- Post PTCA/stent care with arterial/venous sheaths
- Drug toxicity requiring advanced monitoring
- ETOH withdrawal with airway compromise risk
- Thrombolytic therapy for ACS or vascular patency
- Major vascular surgery or leg bypass with comorbidities
- Hemodynamic instability/hypotension
- Insulin drip therapy
- Heart failure
- Carotid surgery
- Electrical cardioversion
- Active rewarming for temperature regulation
Unit Environment & Support
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3
- Ancillary Staff: CNA/PCT support (3 per shift), telemetry tech available
- Floating: Required; nurses will be part of the Resource Float team and float to appropriate units
- Charge Nurse: Not required
- Respiratory Support: Available 24/7
- Anesthesia Support: Not available 24/7
- Ventilator Management: Only home ventilators on unit

- Patient Care Modality: Acute inpatient progressive care with telemetry

- Insulin drips
- Cardiac drips
- Starting IVs
- Post cardiac catheterization care
- Documentation System: EPIC
- Medication System: MAK
- Dress Code:
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white
- Shoes: Closed toe, nonskid
- Jewelry: Minimal
- Hair/Beard: Groomed, professional; no beard
- Nail Polish: No artificial polish
Additional Information
- Must have reliable transportation; public transportation is not accessible
- Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November to April
- No block schedules allowed
- Employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
- Complete work history required for submission (including bed count, EMR, facility type)
This assignment is ideal for nurses with at least 1 year of telemetry experience, current BLS/ACLS/NIHSS certifications, and recent Epic EMR proficiency who are comfortable working in a progressive care setting with a diverse cardiac patient population.
