Description

Registered Nurse – Neuro PCU

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift Hours: 3x12 hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
  • 4x12 hour shifts available upon request
  • Up to 52 weeks available upon request
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Call-off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Accepts first-time travelers
  • Locals accepted within radius rule
  • Pending license accepted if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Clinical Skills

  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (dysrhythmia interpretation/management, Rapid Response/Code teams)
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care
  • Medication administration, cardiac drips (no titration)
  • Respiratory support (nasal cannula, O2 administration, non-invasive airway management)
  • Rapid Response and Isolation precautions

Unit Details & Patient Population

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–5 (confirm comfort with 1:5 ratio)
  • Adult patients with neurological conditions
  • Includes 5 dedicated beds for continuous 24-hour epilepsy monitoring
  • Care includes neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, neuro-specific diagnoses, and medical overflow
  • Floating required to units within clinical skillset

Specialty Experience Requirement

  • No explicit years of experience stated; first-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Licensing & Documentation Requirements

  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license preferred; pending license accepted under specific conditions
  • I-9 or attestation required
  • Driver’s License/State ID required within 48 hours of signing (must meet radius criteria)
  • Background check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases
  • Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or declination form required during flu season
  • 2 clinical references required
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Charting System

  • EPIC experience required

Additional Notes

  • Must include all scheduling requests with submission
  • Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
  • Professional photo required for badge
  • Floating to other units within clinical skillset expected

This position is ideal for RNs with neuro or PCU experience who are comfortable with night shifts, weekend and holiday work, and floating within their skillset. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
