Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Shift Requirements: Every other weekend required
  • Unit Ratio: 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Unit Type: Medical-Surgical
    • Majority medical patients (COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, COVID-19, chest pain, small bowel obstruction, etc.)
    • Small surgical caseload (1-3 post-surgical cases/day) including gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, colectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy
  • Skillset Requirements:
    • Telemetry
    • IV Start
  • Certification Requirements:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Additional Notes:
    • Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at these facilities except for Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) who are exempt from this rule.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Licensure: Valid RN license with online verification within 30 days of start
  • Background Checks:
    • Must include 7 years of residence/work history
    • County, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III checks
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Official transcript or diploma required
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years
  • Employment Application: Must be current and explain any gaps of 30+ days
  • Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually thereafter
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
    • Unit competency exam
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months of start
    • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
    • Immunizations and titers:
      • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
      • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
      • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended but not required
    • TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray if positive history
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS and BLS (AHA or RQI accepted) mandatory
    • PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke, EFM certifications may be required depending on unit (verify per assignment)
  • Orientation & Compliance:
    • Completion of facility-specific forms and orientation packets prior to start
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement required

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this assignment.
  • First-time travelers are welcome.
  • Locals are not accepted for this role.
  • Charge pay available (not included here per instructions).
  • IU Health has specific restrictions for Indiana RNs starting 11/30/24, with exceptions for certain perioperative and ambulatory roles.

This opportunity is ideal for a Registered Nurse with Medical-Surgical experience who is comfortable with telemetry and IV starts, willing to work every other weekend, and able to meet comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
