Position Details

Job Description

• General Duties:

  • Care for ventilated patients
  • Initiate and titrate IV drips (vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics)
  • Assist with intubations and line placements
  • Monitor critically ill patients with primary diagnoses including:

    • Sepsis
    • Respiratory failure (acute and chronic)
    • Renal failure (acute and chronic)
    • Myocardial infarctions
    • Pulmonary embolism
    • Pneumonia

• Unit Type: Mixed acuity unit with both ICU and progressive care patients. Travelers will primarily care for progressive patients.

• Equipment Utilized:

  • Phillips heart monitors
  • Epic (EMR)
  • Pyxis
  • EKG machine
  • Dopplers

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum Experience: 1.5 years of ICU experience required; 2 years preferred.
• Skills: Strong background in medical patients and critical care, flexibility, critical thinking, teamwork, and personable demeanor.

Licensure and Certifications

• Required:

  • BLS (AHA only)
  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • Indiana RN License

Shift and Schedule

• Shifts: Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Weekend Requirement: Greater need for weekend shifts; weekend-only assignments may be available.
• Floating: Travelers may float to other ICUs, progressive units, and Medsurg, maintaining a 1:3 patient ratio.

Unit Details

• Bed Size:

  • Medical ICU: 24 beds
  • Progressive Care: 12 beds
• Nurse to Patient Ratios:

  • Progressive Care: 1:3 or 1:4 (with transfers or medical patients)
  • ICU: 1:2 or 1:3 (with transfers or medical patients)

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Caribbean blue
• Jackets: Must be black, white, or Caribbean blue
• Undershirts: Short or long sleeves must be black or white

Orientation and Training

• Onboarding includes workforce development to review policies and obtain EPIC training and access, with one day dedicated to unit onboarding.

Additional Information

• Travel experience and experience in Level 1 or Level 2 facilities are preferred.
• Candidates should indicate any required time off during the assignment.
