Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Sylvania, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse – Rehab RN (Medical Surgical/Rehab)
Contract Length: 9 weeks


Position Details

  • Float Requirement: Must float within service line and Med Surg, between multiple facilities as needed.
  • Weekend Coverage: Every third weekend required.
  • Shift Ratios:
    • Days: 1:5
    • Nights: 1:6
    • Weekends: 1:5-6
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Patient Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Patient Diagnoses:
    • CVA (Stroke)
    • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
    • Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
    • Neurological conditions
    • Orthopedic cases
    • Amputees
    • Cancer/Cardiac
    • Debility
  • Unit Type: Rehab Unit (Medical Surgical/Rehab)
  • Special Equipment: No ventilators, no telemetry
  • Work Setting: Med/Surg

Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • First-Timers: Accepted, but cannot be "AO" (must be reviewed by Unit Manager)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Charge Nurse Experience: Preferred
  • Charting Experience: EPIC required
  • Patient Ratio Experience: Experience with 1:5 ratio required

  • Acute inpatient rehab
  • Blood glucose monitoring
  • Feeding devices/adaptive equipment
  • Feeding tube care and management (NG tube insertion, PEG tube feeding)
  • Swallowing precautions, thickened liquids
  • Foley catheter insertion/removal
  • Blood administration
  • Care and management of ports
  • IV starts
  • Medication administration including anticoagulants, anti-seizure, diuretics
  • Stroke scale assessment
  • Neuromuscular disease management
  • Parkinson’s disease care
  • Post craniotomy care
  • Seizure disorder management
  • Spinal cord injury care
  • Assistive devices and mobilization techniques
  • Pulse and CMS checks
  • Suture/staple removal
  • Total joint replacements
  • Breath sounds assessment
  • COVID protocols
  • Incentive spirometry
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Suctioning (oral and nasotracheal)
  • Supplemental oxygen delivery
  • Tracheostomy care and suctioning

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)

Scheduling & Other Requirements

  • No on-call required
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • No local travelers within 50 miles accepted
  • Pending licenses not accepted
  • Return to work restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require management approval

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Fingerprinting (Ohio BCI and FBI) within 12 months of start, updated annually if applicable
  • Education verification (highest level)
  • Physical exam within last 12 months
  • N95 Fit Test within 12 months, updated annually (KN95 not accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination accepted
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B series, positive titer, or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years, including at least one from a leader (Charge RN or above)
  • Skills checklist required for all candidates
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required annually for RNs

  • Must be able to work in a non-profit hospital setting with 31 staffed beds at this facility.
  • Charting system used: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Free parking available

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in medical surgical or rehab nursing, comfortable with floating between facilities, and skilled in acute inpatient rehab care. Weekend coverage every third weekend is required. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
