Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Unit Types: General Pediatrics, Hematology/Oncology, Orthopedics, Surgical
  • Float Assignments: May float to PICU and NICU; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs
  • Schedule: Every Other Weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 1.5+ years of experience required
  • Specific Experience: Chemotherapy/Oncology experience required; must have general pediatrics experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First time travelers accepted)

Certifications Required

  • Mandatory:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Preferred:
    • APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) certification
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Key Job Requirements and Notes

  • Block/special scheduling requires approval at time of booking
  • Return to Office (RTO) must be included with submission
  • Must be able to float to PICU and NICU for appropriate assignments
  • Patient care involves pediatric and oncology populations
  • Must be comfortable with a 1:5 patient ratio
  • Use of EPIC electronic charting system
  • Navy scrub color required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • Health Documents:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility guidelines
    • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions
    • Drug screening within 30 days of start
    • Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required
    • Latex allergy screening questionnaire
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months of start
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam as applicable
    • Color blind testing if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Orientation and Training:
    • Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person portions)
    • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation policy
  • References and Work History:
    • Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
    • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
    • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to comply with floating policies and facility-specific requirements
  • Documentation must be current and compliant with facility and state regulations
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment
  • Candidate must be prepared for a mandatory on-site fit test on the first day
  • Facility requires navy scrub color for this assignment
