Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Hours: 35.25 hours per week
- Patient Ratios:
- Critical Care: 1:1 to 1:3
- Stepdown (if floated): 1:4
- Schedule: Every other weekend
- Patient Mix: Acute renal failure, GI surgery, CVAs, TBIs, ventilated patients
- Float Units: May include additional units based on skill set and hospital needs (confirm with recruiter)
- Uniform: Navy blue scrubs
- Charting System: EPIC
Experience Requirements
- Acute Care Experience: Minimum 1.5 years related to the position
- Specialty Experience: Neuro ICU/SICU experience required with strong skills in:
- EKG interpretation
- Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- TAVI/TAVR procedures
- Insulin protocols
- CVVHD/CRRT
- IV skills
- Lumbar drains
- Post-neuro surgery care
- EVD and ventilator management
- Preferred: Experience with IABP, Impella, LVAD
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA required for all adult critical care units
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for adult critical care specialties, ER, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and Labor & Delivery units
- Additional Certifications:
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG and Medication exams) required
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam
- Other certifications as applicable based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, EFM)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility protocol
- Immunizations and titers for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required
- Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable
- Color blindness test if job tasks require color discrimination
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Work History: Minimum 7 years of work history documented; New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year prior to start date with no gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Must be completed and updated annually

- No fresh graduates ("NO FRESH HEARTS")
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and education sign-offs prior to start
- Floating policy must be acknowledged for every new assignment or site transfer
- Pass/fail testing remediation policies apply with limited attempts allowed
- Candidates switching between RWJ sites within 30 days may have some documentation accepted from previous assignment
