Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float pool RN position covering Pediatric Critical Care units.
- Shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation.
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3.
- RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units including CVPICU, NICU, PICU.
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet experience requirements.
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience (highest required years of experience).
- Preferred experience with ECMO and CRRT.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Must hold a South Carolina RN license or a Multi-State/Compact RN license.
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- Preferred/Additional Certifications:
- ACLS (not required for pediatric units)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) through AHA/AAP
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) not required for ER RNs
- Certifications must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start.
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval.
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks.
- During hurricane season (June-November, peak in August-September), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form and attestation).
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID.
- Social Security Card or SSN verification.
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history with SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder.
- NURSYS verification for RN licenses.
- Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license.
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
- Employment history verification of last 3 clinical employers.
- Competency exams as applicable (medication/pharmacology, OR competency if applicable).
- Color Blind Testing required prior to start.
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation.
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually.
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+), renewed annually.
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form.
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters required for low titers.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination.
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series; boosters for low titers.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30).
- COVID-19 vaccination is highly preferred but not required; declination form must be completed if not vaccinated.
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge required only for specific units (not applicable for this pediatric float pool RN role).
- Sterile Processing Techs have additional physical and lab requirements (not applicable here).
- Travelers must upload all required documentation into the facility’s system prior to start.
- Failure to complete required modules or submit documentation may result in being sent home or delayed start.
