Job Opportunity: RN Medical Center - Critical Care ICU
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- ICU (2nd Floor ICU)
- Level III Trauma Center
- Level II NICU
- Primary Stroke Center
- 17 beds in ICU unit
- Patient types include:
- General: COVID, sepsis, alcohol use disorder, IV drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeding, stroke with TPA, acute renal failure
- Surgical: general surgery, open abdomen, orthopedic (total joints), ENT, OBGYN
- Cardiac/Vascular: femoral-popliteal bypass, CABG, valve surgeries, post cardiac catheterization (radial approach), abdominal aortic aneurysm, amputations
- No complex neuro cases post TNK/TPA
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years ICU experience required
- Preference for CRRT (NxStage) experience
- First-time travelers must have 3 years ICU experience
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications
- Required: BLS, ACLS
- Preferred: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Skills & Clinical Competencies
- General ICU skills including:
- Ventilator and tracheostomy management
- Invasive line management (arterial line, central venous pressure, Swan-Ganz catheter)
- Drains and tube management
- Foley catheter management
- Chest tube care
- Post-surgical recovery
- Post cardiac catheterization experience
- Experience with fresh heart patients preferred
- Continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH)
- Balloon pump management
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) with NxStage
PPE & Safety
- COVID vaccine required
- N95 masks and PAPRs provided
- Adequate PPE supplied
Patient Ratios
- RN: 1:2 (acuity based)
- CNA: 1:8 (day), 1:17 (night)
Support on Unit
- Charge Nurse (occasional patient assignment)
- Unit Secretary (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Intensivist available 24/7
- ICU-specific Pharmacist (day shift)
- Respiratory Therapist 24/7
- Phlebotomy team for peripheral draws
- Educator available
- Bedside telemetry monitoring
Charting Systems & Equipment
- EPIC (preferred)
- Alaris infusion pumps
- Pyxis medication dispensing system
Floating Assignments
- Intermediate units (1:3 ratio)
- Medical-Surgical Unit (MSU)
- Emergency Department boarding (1:4 ratio)
- Observation units (1:4 ratio)
- Travelers will float first
Orientation
- 1 day orientation
- Day 1: Meet with educator for badge access, computer-based learning, login access
- Meet and greet with Nurse Manager
- Remainder of shift with preceptor
Scheduling
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- Shifts:
- Day: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
- Night: 7:30 PM - 7:00 AM
- Return to Office (RTO) pending manager approval
- No on-call required
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Any color allowed except camo, denim, or hoodies
- Free parking available
- More than 2 sick calls may lead to contract evaluation and possible termination
