Job Opportunity: Unit Manager - Nursing
Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary
The Unit Manager supervises the overall nursing activities of the assigned unit, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations to maintain the highest quality of care.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Operations & Care
- Supervise nursing staff and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Oversee infection control surveillance and compliance with health information privacy laws (HIPAA).
- Participate in audits, survey inspections, and quality assurance programs.
- Manage medication administration, treatment schedules, and nursing documentation.
- Conduct daily rounds to assess resident needs and monitor care quality.
- Collaborate with physicians and nursing leadership on resident care plans and problem resolution.
- Provide direct nursing care as needed, including IV starts, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and family communications.
Staff Management & Development
- Lead, instruct, and delegate tasks to Team Leaders and nursing staff.
- Participate in hiring, orientation, competency testing, and performance evaluations.
- Conduct regular unit meetings to enhance communication and teamwork.
- Facilitate in-service training and continuing education for nursing staff.
- Promote leadership development and ensure staff compliance with safety and dress code standards.
Safety, Sanitation & Equipment
- Ensure nursing work areas are clean, safe, and compliant with safety regulations.
- Monitor use and maintenance of nursing equipment and supplies.
- Participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills.
- Develop and enforce safety standards and hazardous condition reporting procedures.
Resident Rights & Communication
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Ensure residents are treated with dignity, respect, and kindness.
- Assist Social Services with resident notifications related to room changes.
Committee & Administrative Functions
- Attend and participate in various facility committees (Falls, Risk, Quality Assurance, etc.).
- Assist in developing and updating discharge planning procedures.
- Report unit performance and issues to Director of Nursing (DON).
