Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU - Medical-Renal)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) specializing in Medical-Renal patients. Ventilator experience is required.
Schedule & Work Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- Call-off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Charting: Epic experience required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Required Clinical Skills
- Cardiac: Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia management, cardiac drip management (without titration)
- IV/Line: IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
- Respiratory: Ventilator experience required; respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Rapid Response/Isolation: Use of rapid response and code teams, maintaining isolation precautions
- Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Patient population: Adults and geriatric patients
- Unit includes care for chronic ventilator patients and hospitalist medicine patients with renal and other medical diagnoses
- Functions as an alternative unit for gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU/Medical-Renal)
- Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated, but must have ventilator experience and PCU/stepdown experience
- Prior travel experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)
Licensure
- Active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required
- Pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
Additional Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Required immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required
- 2 clinical references required
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance documents
Notes
- Locals accepted within a specified radius
- Must work per facility scheduling policies including weekend and holiday shifts
