Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse
Location: Arlington, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Cardiovascular Unit (CV Stepdown/Telemetry)
- Responsible for cardiac surgery patients post-ICU
- Requires strong cardiac tele/stepdown nursing skills
- Experience managing chest tubes and dysrhythmia essential
- Experience working with CVSD patients and telemetry
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s)
- Day shifts
- Every other weekend
Requirements
- Active Virginia or Compact RN License at time of submission
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (specialty experience in cardiac tele/stepdown preferred)
- Experience managing chest tubes and dysrhythmia
- Experience with cardiovascular stepdown (CVSD) patients and telemetry
- EPIC training required:
- Clin Doc Accelerated class if 6+ months EPIC experience in past 12 months (approx. 4 hours of modules)
- Clin Doc 2 Day class if less than 6 months EPIC experience (no modules)

Vaccination & Health Requirements
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- Medical or religious flu vaccine exemptions allowed with proper documentation and approval
- Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit mask test within last 12 months required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Adult TDAP vaccine required
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 11-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Annual TB questionnaire required
Background & Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for renewals
- Education verification required
- Work history verification for past 7 years
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Completion of employment application/resume
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable, updated annually
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion and signing of multiple facility policies and acknowledgements prior to start, including:
- Code of Ethics
- Confidentiality and Information Security Agreement
- Dress Code
- Hand Hygiene and Infection Control
- Parking policies and forms
- Mission and Vision Statement
- National Patient Safety Goals
- Notice of Privacy Practices
- Completion of online and/or onsite orientation and EPIC training modules as required
- Clear, passport-style photo for facility badge
- Must wear both agency and facility badges at all times
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, TNCC) as applicable based on unit requirements
