Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Registered Nurse
Location: Arlington, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Cardiovascular Unit (CV Stepdown/Telemetry)
- Responsible for cardiac surgery patients post-ICU
- Requires strong cardiac tele/stepdown nursing skills
- Experience managing chest tubes and dysrhythmia essential
- Experience working with CVSD patients and telemetry
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s)
- Night shifts
- Every other weekend
Requirements
- Active Virginia or Compact RN License at time of submission
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (specialty experience in cardiac tele/stepdown preferred)
- Experience managing chest tubes and dysrhythmia
- Experience with cardiovascular stepdown (CVSD) patients and telemetry
- EPIC training/classes required (dependent on prior EPIC experience)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS required (AHA only)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification for telemetry)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Core competency training (Parts I, II, III) required annually
- Color Blind Testing required prior to start
- Orientation Safety Manual and HIPAA training required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless approved medical or religious exemption
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine required for certain units
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required
- Negative 11-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Fit mask test within last 12 months required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
Background & Documentation
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Education verification required
- Employment and work history verification (7 years)
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance evaluations if worked over 1 year with agency
- Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgements required prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, code of ethics, dress code, parking policies)
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- EPIC training modules may require 4-8 hours of preparation depending on prior experience
- Candidate must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- Candidate will be required to wear both agency and facility badges at all times
