Job Opportunity: Pediatric Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia

Job Description

  • Position: Pediatric StepDown RN
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years nursing experience (higher end of 1–2 years stated)
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Occasional weekend shifts required (facility dependent)
  • Floating within similar pediatric rehab/inpatient/SNF units required
  • Block scheduling available upon request (not guaranteed)
  • Locals and candidates with pending DC RN license accepted (license must be active prior to start)
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • Max 1 week Return to Office (RTO) restrictions; if full week taken, must extend contract to make up time

Patient Care & Environment

  • Typical pediatric inpatient/skilled nursing facility (SNF) ratios
  • Medically complex pediatric patients
  • Pediatric rehabilitation and specialized inpatient care setting
  • Comfortable supervising CNAs, LPNs, PCAs as needed
  • Strong assessment and communication skills required

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • BLS/CPR (American Heart Association only; must be current and valid prior to start)
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, and Chemotherapy certifications required based on unit/specialty (AHA/AAP only; must be current)
  • Pediatric certification (CPN or pediatric rehab certification) preferred
  • State RN license required prior to start (pending license accepted with proof)
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam at orientation (minimum 84% to pass, 2 attempts allowed)

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Background checks including SSN trace, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Physical exam within 30 days of start (including latex allergy info)
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values)
    • Hepatitis B series and quantitative titer (or declination form)
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (seasonal requirement)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 60 days of start (with additional requirements if positive or new converter)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including marijuana)
  • COVID vaccine or declination required for tracking
  • Completion of facility-specific training modules (20+ hours non-billable) prior to start
  • Photo for badge required immediately after signing contract
