Description
Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 17 weeks
Position Overview
Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel/contract role in the Operating Room. The RN will work with a multidisciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care in the OR, ensuring efficient surgical case progression and turnover. The role involves implementing safe, competent, and efficient patient and family care according to policies and standards for perioperative patients of varying complexity.
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (Day/Evening)
- Monday to Friday, 0940 - 2210
- Weekend call responsibilities
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Clinical Focus Areas (Tier 7 - ENT, Eyes, Plastics)
- Eyes: Vitrectomy, open globe repair
- Plastics: Abdominoplasty, DIEP flap surgery (breast reconstruction), free flap, laparoscopic procedures
- ENT: Arch bars, facial repairs (mandibular, zygomatic), sinus surgery, radical neck dissection, tracheostomy, septoplasty, acoustics (cranial experience), direct laryngoscopy
- Ears: Cochlear implants
Equipment & Technology Used
- Constellation, Straight Shot, liposuction, neoprobe, NIM, Piezo, Klein Pump, Stryker Navigation
- Microscopes: Pentero, Mitaka, Leica
Licensure & Certification Requirements
- Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
- BLS & ACLS certification through American Heart Association only
Facility & Assignment Details
- Permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
- Magnet®-designated hospital, recognized as Wisconsin’s #1 hospital and a leading teaching/referral center
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and state-specific caregiver screening
- Education verification as applicable
- Various certifications and competency exams (e.g., ACLS, BLS, telemetry tests) required and must be current
- Health documents including immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B), TB testing, flu vaccination or approved exemption, drug screening
- Facility-specific forms such as communicable disease form, flu exemption forms, and photo for badge
- Annual skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for strict testing and remediation processes for telemetry and orientation exams
- Facility requires adherence to specific renewal timelines for certifications
- Floating and flexibility in unit assignments are expected to complete the contract
This role is ideal for experienced acute care RNs comfortable with perioperative care in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary environment, and who meet the licensure and certification requirements for Wisconsin.
