Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Progressive ICU (PCU)

Location: Seneca, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Unit: Progressive ICU (PCU) - 10-bed step-down unit
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
  • Common Diagnoses: Respiratory failure, sepsis, heart failure, DKA/HHS, alcohol withdrawal, overdose
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3

Experience & Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Progressive ICU)
  • Required Years of Experience: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required to float to other units/campuses as needed, limited to qualified areas with documented competencies
  • Charting: Minimum 1 year of EPIC experience required
  • Licensure: Active South Carolina or multistate nursing license required (pending licenses not accepted)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA or ARC, RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP, MAB or CPI, etc.)

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in IV therapy and phlebotomy
  • Arterial and central line management
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Use of external CPAP/BiPAP
  • Isolation precautions
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including dysrhythmia management
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips

Scheduling & Policies

  • Call-off Policy: Facility allows 1 call-off shift per 2 weeks
  • RTO, Block & Special Scheduling Requests: Must be submitted with application and approved by facility
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, subject to radius rule
  • Floating Policy: Must be signed and renewed annually

Orientation & Training

  • Online Cornerstone Modules: Required to be completed within 72 hours of assignment; mandatory before start
  • Orientation: 16 hours non-billable clinical orientation onsite
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Medication and Arrhythmia tests required for RNs (except prebook or non-clinical) with two attempts allowed; passing score 84%
  • Annual Competency Exams and Core Training (Parts I, II, III) required

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations & Testing:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working/floating in high-risk areas)
    • Flu Vaccine or approved exemption required annually (not required for 100% remote)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Drug Screening: 5-panel drug screen within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Respirator Fit Test: Completed onsite during orientation
  • Background Checks: 7-year background check within 12 months of start, including multiple federal and state-level screenings
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with specific background and lighting requirements

Additional Notes

  • Facility is a 169-bed acute care hospital offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient services including robotic surgery, cancer care, stroke, hospice, orthopedics, OB/GYN, and pediatric care
  • Recognized as a Blue Distinction Center for hip and knee replacements
  • Floating is prioritized to home unit but required as needed
  • All certifications must be current and cannot expire within 30 days of start date
  • Candidates must carry a valid driver's license for computer access and while on duty

This position is suitable for nurses with at least 1 year of ICU or progressive care experience who are comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and are willing to complete required training and certifications. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
