Job Opportunity: RN - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit Name: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
- Number of Beds: 40
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Unit Staffing:
- Unit secretaries and tech availability
- HUC available 7:30 AM - 4 PM
- 4 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) scheduled daily, assigned to specific pods
- PCTs can draw labs, perform catheterizations, and transport patients
- Equipment: Standard PACU equipment
- Documentation System: Cerner
- Scheduling: 6-week schedules issued at a time; 3 call shifts required within each 6-week period
- Floating Policy: Float within peri-anesthesia areas (Endoscopy, PreOp, Phase II)
- Dress Code: Surgical green or navy scrubs
Required Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Registered Nurse License
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Years of Experience in Specialty: Minimum 2 years as an RN
- Requested Skill Set:
- Trauma experience
- Pediatric experience
- NIH Stroke Scale experience
- Advanced Skills Needed: Ventilator monitoring

- The hospital is a Level II trauma center with a comprehensive stroke center and Level III neonatal intensive care unit.
- The unit supports a busy robotic surgery program and provides specialized cardiac care.
