Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Inpatient Psych)

Location: Christiansburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7 PM to 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Charting System: EPIC experience preferred
• Floating: May be required to float to a nearby mental health facility
• Patient Ratios:

  • 7 AM to 11 PM: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
  • 11 PM to 7 AM: 1 nurse to 10 patients
• Bed Capacity: 36 beds
• Locals: Not accepted
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Pending License: Accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN license required
• Call Off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Required Qualifications

• License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or Compact RN license
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience (higher value from data)
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • CPI Blue (Crisis Prevention Institute Blue Card) - required for Behavioral Health
• Other Requirements:

  • Must submit CPI Blue certification with application
  • Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination form during flu season
  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required
  • Two clinical references required
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Photo for badge required

Additional Notes

• All scheduling requests must be submitted with application
• Mileage reimbursed for floating assignments
• Must comply with facility-specific onboarding paperwork and orientation materials
• Drivers License/State ID must be provided within 48 hours of signing and must meet radius requirements (within 100 miles of facility)

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level III trauma accredited acute care hospital within a respected health system, serving a broad region including parts of Virginia and neighboring states.
