Travel RN - Med Surg

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) with Med Surg experience for a travel assignment in a Level I trauma hospital. The unit includes telemetry, medical-surgical, and trauma patients.


Unit Information

  • Unit: 6 Front Telemetry, Med Surg, Trauma
  • Beds: 33
  • Staff: 55 total
  • Shifts:
    • Day: 1 charge nurse, unit secretary, 7-8 RNs, 2-3 PCTs
    • Night: 1 charge nurse, unit secretary, 7-8 RNs, 2 PCTs
  • Patient Ratios: 5 to 6 patients per nurse
  • Equipment: EKG, code cart, Welch Allyn vital machines, vascular Doppler, wound vacs, Cultura Link interpreting services, Carescape monitors for rhythm monitoring (used during push meds like metoprolol)
  • EMR System: Meditech

Required Qualifications

  • Active Virginia or Compact RN license at submission
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a hospital setting (Med Surg preferred)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Must pass Basic Rhythm test

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Medical Surgical nursing
  • Excellent patient focus

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Small Incision & Drainage (I&D)
  • Peritoneal Dialysis
  • Thoracentesis (infrequent)
