Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - MedSurg Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units caring for a diverse patient population.
- Patient diagnoses include chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end stage renal disease), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, c-diff), neurological issues (stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Care for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis and paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
- Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic).
- Manage equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, and medication drips (heparin, insulin).
- Float to other medical units as needed, focusing on areas of greatest need.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- 3 weekend shifts in every 4 weeks
- Patient ratios approximately 1:5-6
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or compact RN license (effective 7/1/20)
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Minimum 1.5 years of Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary nursing experience
- Minimum 1 year of MedSurg experience at a large hospital (600+ beds)
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program including:
- 1 day general hospital orientation
- Approximately 5 days nursing orientation
- Epic electronic health record training
Additional Information
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
- Use of Epic charting system
- Floating limited to other medical units only
