Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED) Backfill

Location

  • Grafton, WI

Facility Overview

  • Level III Trauma Center
  • Level II NICU
  • Primary Stroke Center
  • 167 beds total, 18 beds in ED

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Patient Population

  • Neonates to Geriatrics (45% of patients are 65 or older)
  • Common cases: Geriatrics, chest pain, atrial fibrillation, stroke
  • Transfers: Psychiatric, pediatric, and higher-level traumas transferred to nearby facility
  • Higher acuity patients with Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Levels 2-3
  • Average patient volume: 60 patients per day

Patient Ratios

  • RN to patient ratio: 1:3-4 (both day and night shifts)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room (ER) experience
  • First-time travelers are welcome (no prior travel experience required)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred

Required Skills

  • Peripheral IV (PIV) starts
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Management of cardiac drips (gtts)
  • Vasopressor administration
  • TPA (tissue plasminogen activator) administration preferred
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system required

Support on Unit

  • Charge nurse available (may take patient load)
  • Bedside telemetry monitoring without tele tech
  • Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
  • Hospitalist available 24/7
  • Pharmacy available 24/7
  • EICU support 24/7

Equipment and Charting System

  • Epic electronic health record system
  • Alaris IV pumps
  • Pyxis medication dispensing system

Orientation

  • 2 days hospital orientation
  • One shift on unit for flow training (usually day shift)

Scheduling

  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • Time off requests can be approved with 7 days notice
  • No call required
  • Holiday work expectations: 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday
