Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Specialty: Emergency Department (ED) Nursing
Facility & Unit Overview
- Level IV Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center
- 20 beds in the ED (plus 8 overflow and 4 chairs)
- Average patient volume: 100-200 patients per day
- Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatric, including 10-15% pediatrics
- Common patient conditions: chest pain, dizziness, syncope, strokes, sepsis, orthopedic injuries, respiratory distress/failure, STEMI, COVID-19, behavioral health medical clearance
Patient Ratios
- Day shift RN to patient ratio: 1:3-4
- Night shift RN to patient ratio: 1:4-5
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years ED nursing experience preferred for first-time travelers
- Will accept travelers with 1 year of ED experience within the past year (preferably with an additional 2-5 years nursing experience)
- Certifications:
- Required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Preferred: TNCC, CPI/MOAB, CEN
- Skills:
- General ED nursing skills
- Strong IV skills
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation and monitoring
- Foley catheter placement and management
- Nasogastric tube placement and management
- Knowledgeable in STEMI, CVA, and sepsis treatments
- Medication titration
- Technology:
- EPIC EMR experience required within the last 2 years
- Familiarity with Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
Orientation & Support
- Orientation: 1 shift including meeting with Nurse Manager and Supervisor, plus unit preceptor support
- Support staff available 24/7 including CNA, receptionist/HUC, respiratory therapists, hospitalists/PAs, and phlebotomy assistance
- Charge nurse available to cover low acuity patients and may take patient assignments as needed
- ED educator available Monday through Friday
- IV/VAT team and resource nurse (flow nurse) available during peak hours
- Telemetry monitoring at bedside and nurse’s station (no tele tech)
Floating
- Floating based on facility needs
- Floating RNs will not take patient assignments but assist as helping hands, taskers, sitters, or runners
- Travelers float first
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Any professional color (no camo, denim, or hoodies)
- Free parking available in the east parking structure (3rd floor or higher)
This position is ideal for experienced ED nurses looking for a contract role in a busy Level IV Trauma Center with diverse patient populations and strong support systems.
