Job Opportunity: RN - PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: 5 West Medicine (5W MEDICINE 610)
- Number of Beds: 36
- Number of Staff: 50+
- Day Shift Staffing: 1 charge nurse, 8 RNs, 3 CNAs, 1 HUC, 1-2 sitters
- Night Shift Staffing: 1 charge nurse, 7 RNs, 3 CNAs, 0.5 HUC, 1-2 sitters
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day RN: 1:5 or 1:6
- Night RN: 1:6 or 1:7
- Equipment: Medical remote telemetry monitoring, Cerner Patient Observation (CPO), VC150 devices in every patient room, workstations on wheels, Tap and Go computer access
- EMR System: Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with medical telemetry
Work Environment & Expectations
- Fast-paced, team-oriented, compassionate work culture
- Typical patient preparation includes Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology (IR), and Operating Room (OR)
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs (top and bottom), white top with navy blue bottom, or all white
- Floating Areas: Med-Surg units 3W, 5W, K8 (sister units)
- Weekend Requirement: Must sign up for 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday count as weekend shifts on night shift)

- Staff have access to unit policies and guidelines via internal resources and manager discussions
