Job Opportunity: Pediatric IV Therapy Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Pediatric IV Therapy RN on a vascular access team
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Pediatric IV Therapy)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Pediatric Vascular Access, including Hematology-Oncology, ICU, or similar pediatric to adult populations)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
- Weekend shifts required
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Shift Length: 12 hours with rotating shifts:
- 7 AM – 7:30 PM
- 11 AM – 11:30 PM
- 3 PM – 3:30 AM
Required Skills and Experience
- Valid RN license in Massachusetts
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of infusion experience, including infusion experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric, adult, and maternal-fetal patients
- Ultrasound-guided IV placement and vein finder experience
- IV placement skills
- Pediatric vascular access experience, including hematology/oncology and ICU settings
- Vascular access experience
Certifications and Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required if assignment is extended beyond 13 weeks (specific to cardiovascular pediatric intensive care units)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) recommended for pediatric intensive care and related units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred for NICU assignments
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., chemo certification for oncology)
Work Environment
- Acute Care Facility with Magnet status
- NICU Level III/IV and Trauma Level I
- Total staffed beds: 485
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Any solid color on all units except OR (provided) and SPT (any color, not provided)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including 10-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Massachusetts statewide iCORI clearance
- Physical exam within 1 year, cleared to work with no restrictions
- Immunizations and health requirements including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) proof or titers
- Hepatitis B documentation or declination
- Varicella proof or titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
- Drug screening (9-panel) within last 12 months (not required for APN)
- Respiratory safety clearance (RespSafety questionnaire) required for all travelers
- Two professional references from two separate employers within the last 3 places of employment
- Employment application with 10-year work history and explanation for gaps over 30 days
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year prior to start
Scheduling and Shifts
- Rotating day/night shifts with start times at 7 AM, 11 AM, and 7 PM
- Weekend availability required
