Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – Behavioral Health

Location: Christiansburg, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse for an inpatient psychiatric unit. This is a travel/contract position with a 3x12 hour shift schedule (7 AM – 7 PM), with the option for 4x12 shifts upon request.

Schedule Details

• Shifts: 3x12 hour shifts, 7 AM to 7 PM (4x12 shifts available upon request)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Call Off Policy: Facility allows 1 call off shift per 2 weeks
• Floating: May be required to float to a nearby mental health facility if needed

Unit Details

• 36-bed inpatient psychiatric unit
• Patient Ratios:

  • 7 AM to 11 PM: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
  • 11 PM to 7 AM: 1 nurse to 10 patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience, with psychiatric experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Certifications & Compliance

• Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Fit test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Required immunizations or positive titers for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification and transcript/diploma required
• Two clinical references required
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance documents

Additional Information

• Mileage reimbursement provided for floating assignments
• Pending licenses accepted only if from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia RN license required
• Candidates must provide a professional photo for badge issuance
• Must complete all required documentation and background checks prior to start
